“Because it’s prettier than Nada Surf, more hopeful than Spoon, and less glitchy than Bastille, yet somehow makes us think of all three. That’s a good thing.” – Esquire

Today, Soft Swells shares the video for their first single, “Floodlights” via Flavorwire. Directed by George Sloan, who got the idea for the video from his feelings of needing to run every time he listened to the song. “Maybe it’s because the music and lyrics start on the first beat of the song. Maybe it’s because of the locomotive percussion, driving the music forward like a freight train. Or maybe it’s because the song is about a new, bursting love. I’m really not sure. I just know that it makes me want to run,” George tells Flavorwire. “I kept picturing a guy and a girl trying to kiss for the first time, but instead they find themselves running for their lives.”

“Floodlights” comes to us from Soft Swells’ highly anticipated sophomore album of the same name which is out now on Modern Outsider Records. Tim Williams, the mastermind behind Soft Swells, tracked most of Floodlights with producer Dave Lynch at ElectricZoo in Eastbourne, UK, with Soft Swells’ touring bass player and multi-instrumentalist Christopher Pappas at his side, and a guest appearance by resident UK drummer Phil Wilkinson (Jake Bugg, Brian Eno).  As if that wasn’t enough, Misty Boyce (Sara Bareilles), Jonathan Visger (Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr) and Soft Swells’ touring guitarist Kyle Frederickson all contributed their talents via satellite. The album is available in stores now and digitally via iTunes.
