yMusic Selected As Inaugural Group For New York Live Arts’ Debut Music Series

New York City-based chamber sextet yMusic is proud to share their involvement in New York Live Arts‘ inaugural new music series, titled Come Around. The series will feature three studio concerts featuring six world premiere music commissions by Mark Dancigers and Paul CorleyQasim NaqviMissy Mazzoli and Robert Sirota, and Marcos Balter between September and December 2015. The series will culminate in the world premiere of two new dance commissions by legendary choreographers Bill T. Jones and Dianne McIntyre, who will perform their solo dances alongside Balter (resulting in four total dance performances). More information on those performances is listed below.
Since their inception in 2008, yMusic has sought to bring a classical chamber music aesthetic to venues outside the traditional concert hall. Their unique configuration (string trio, flute, clarinet, and trumpet) has attracted the attention of many high profile artists spanning several genres, leading to recordings and performances with Bon IverPaul SimonThe National, Meredith MonkAntony & the JohnsonsDavid Byrne, The New York PhilharmonicSufjan Stevens and more.
Since releasing their debut album Beautiful Mechanical on New Amsterdam Records in 2011 (which was deemed “Best Classical Album” by Time Out New York), the group recorded on Dirty Projectors‘ Swing Lo Magellan (and opened for them at Carnegie Hall), Richard Reed Parry‘s Music For Heart and BreathBeck‘s Song Reader project, and co-wrote and recorded the collaborative album So Therewith Ben Folds (out September 11). They’ve also performed and toured with Jose GonzalesBlake MillsJulianna Barwick and more in the past two years, in addition to becoming Duke University‘s Ensemble-In-Residence. Most recently, they were guest artists during Bon Iver’s set at the inaugural Eaux Claires Festival, in addition to performing a set of their own.
With their newest release Balance Problems (which was produced by Son Lux), world-class compositions and peerless performances share the center-stage, as the group continues to develop their own intense, nuanced style around a host of new compositions by Nico MuhlyMarcos BalterAndrew NormanJeremy TurnerTimo AndresMark Dancigers, and Sufjan Stevens.
