Sitting in a hotel room outside of New York City, founding members James Mason and Jackson Wise finished writing what would become The Vantage’s debut single “On My Way.” The recordings, funded through a collision between Mason and a drunk driver two months prior brought them together for one week in June of 2012 to record with producer, Rob Freeman (Gym Class Heroes). At the time Mason was living in Austin and Wise was in New York City. This one-week was their chance at putting to paper the ideas that had held them hostage for the past year, the ideas that went on to become the foundation of The Vantage.
The band made their live debut in Austin, Texas in 2013 during the annual South by Southwest Festival, performing alongside budding acts, American Authors and The Mowgli’s. They fired back with the release of their single “On My Way,” which quickly picked up a buzz online, garnering over 350K views on SoundCloud to date, and leading to placements with ABC Family, MTV Networks and LinkedIn. They released their EP Color Blind in July of 2014 alongside a performance on Alcatraz Island with Young The Giant.
The Vantage continue to gain ground in their hometown, playing at various local staples such as The Historic Scoot Inn, The Mohawk, and Holy Mountain. With 2015 on the horizon, and a handful of new material in their pockets the band is gearing up for a busy spring.
